 Belgrade Information  and Background

Located in the scenic county of Gallatin, Belgrade is about ten miles from the City of Bozeman. The nearby Bridger Mountains offer fantastic views as well as sites for numerous recreational activities. Accessible via land or air, Belgrade is proud of its simple beginnings and high quality of life it currently provides. The city was founded by the entrepreneur Thomas B. Quaw and named after Serbia’s capital, Belgrade. The community’s growth continued until the 1930’s when it became a small farming town after the Great Depression hit the region. When the 2nd World War ended, Belgrade’s economy was revived. Local businesses thrived and eventually expanded. At the same time, the strong community focused on providing excellent school system and other services. This dedication resulted to more businesses being established and quality of living improved for the residents.

For the last 10 years, Belgrade enjoyed exponential economic growth primarily due to the contribution of the manufacturing and bio technology industries. The city has business and industrial parks that houses building and offices of manufacturers that produce several products including plastic, sheet metal and other machine-built items. Investors enjoy the luxury of having great accessibility to and from the city. Belgrade is served by the Interstate 90 and two State Highways 10 and 89 connected to the US 191, which leads to the Yellowstone National Park and Big Sky Ski Resort.

Other available public transportation services are provided by the bus lines Grey Hound and Karst Stage and the taxi company All Valley Cab. Belgrade is also served by the airlines Delta, Northwest, Horizon Air and United Express using the Gallatin Field Airport.

There are many enjoyable activities offered by Belgrade. For starters, the city has six public parks where baseball and softball games are held regularly including Lion’s Park, Sunnyside Park and Lewis and Clark Park. During winter, residents and visitors take advantage of the recreational activities provided by the cold climate including ice skating at the Kiwanis Park, skiing at the nearby Bridger Bowl and Big Sky Ski resorts and snowmobiling at the great trails of the Gallatin National Forest. Being located in the center of Gallatin Valley, Belgrade also provides opportunities for great outdoor recreational activities like fishing, camping and hiking. The community of Belgrade hosts several events all year round to foster stronger neighborly ties. These events include the Easter Egg Hunt, Lewis and Clark Park Customer Appreciation Day, Crazy Days and the Fall Festival. The city even has a 5000-seat Special Events Center where school tournaments are held. Of course, Belgrade will not be complete without the numerous shops and restaurants lining its commercial district. Delicious meals are served at restaurants like Country Kitchen, Duck in Café and Mint bar and café. For shopaholics, there are the Rocky Mountain Supply, Belgrade Gallery and Gifts, Gallatin Wireless and Albertson’s Grocery Store.

Visitors of Belgrade will have to stay for some time to fully enjoy the attractions of the city. Comfortable accommodations are provided by the numerous bed and breakfasts and motels like Fox Hollow Bed and Breakfast, Belgrade Super 8 and Holiday Inn Express. These lodgings are located within comfortable walking distance of places like the Special Events Center and the shopping center, Valley Center Mall.

Belgrade Community

The local city government is very dedicated to providing the surrounding community with excellent service. Residents enjoy the Belgrade Community Library which has several programs designed for the local children. The Belgrade Schools that include the Belgrade Intermediate School, Belgrade Middle School, Belgrade High School, Heck/Quaw School, Pass Creek Elementary Schools, Springhill Elementary Schools and Ridge View School offer great curriculum.

The Belgrade Fire department has also evolved into an Emergency Service Agency while continuing its basic role of saving lives and properties by suppressing fires. Meanwhile, the Belgrade Police Department is proud of its pro-active role in the community. Police officers are involved in programs like DARE, School Patrol and Bicycle Patrol and in activities like Special Olympics, 911 Fund Raising Events and MDA. Belgrade’s City Court Judiciary consists of a single City Judge, Court of Clerk and a substitute Judge. The Belgrade City Court is responsible for processing violations of local, state, federal and national laws.

Churches in this city include Belgrade Community Church, Belgrade Christian Assembly, Peace Lutheran Church, Belgrade Alliance Church, Church of Christ and the Valley of the Flowers Catholic Church.

The City’s Chamber of Commerce is committed to attracting new businesses to the area without sacrificing the city’s traditions and principles. The city even offers these new businesses a Revolving Loan Fund program to help them be established. With the low interest rates, skilled laborers, excellent public services and easy access to facilities, it is not surprising that Belgrade’s economy continue to thrive.
